Why is there so much static in my house?

Static 800 by 600

Static electricity occurs normally during the winter when the furnace causes the humidity levels in the air to drop in your home. When you shuffle your feet across the carpet it will cause your body to pick up electrons on your body so that when a metal conductor is touched, such as a door knob, the electrons flow to the metal conductor and you receive a static shock. During the summer the air has more moisture so the electrons tend to shed off of your body avoiding the occasional shock. If the air in your home is too dry it can cause dry throats and dry noses which can lead to uncomfortable dry coughs as well as other health issues especially. There are three options for reducing or eliminating static electricity and the other health issues associated with dry air.

  1. There are anti-static sprays that can be used but that will only reduce the static but do very little to improve the air quality in your home.
  2. There are special shoes that can be purchased with the same results as above.
  3. The best solution is to add a whole-house humidifier that can be integrated with the HVAC system of your home. This will avoid the annoying static shock every time you grab the door knob and solve any health related issues by adding the appropriate amount of moisture to the air.

A whole-house humidifier is a simple, effective, and inexpensive solution that will improve the air quality of your home and improve the health of your family.
